What is Kintsugi?

Kintsugi is built on the idea of strength and beauty in imperfection. When a ceramic object breaks, the kintsugi technique involves using gold dust and resin (or lacquer) to reattach the broken pieces. The resulting piece thus incorporates the unique cracks into its design, and the gold lines add to the beauty of the piece while strengthening it. This art form is seen to many as a metaphor for brokenness and healing—that embracing one’s brokenness and imperfections can create something unique, beautiful and strong.

Orthopedic Manual Therapy encompasses hands-on techniques that are used to decrease pain and improve range-of-motion and flexibility. Both soft tissue and joint mobilization and manipulation are key components of manual therapy as they restore the efficient power of movement to joints and associated muscles as well as improve motor control.

We provide hands-on Manual Therapy treatment, Biofeedback, and Motor Control guidance for every phase of an individual’s life. Our specialized staff creates an individualized treatment program for pre/post natal care, pelvic, hip, and low back pain, incontinence, prolapses, diastasis recti, and more.

Vestibular therapy helps correct issues with vertigo, dizziness, imbalance/falls, spatial disorientation, vision disturbance, hearing changes and cognitive and/or psychological changes.

Massage therapy uses varying degrees of pressure to reduce pain, inflammation, stress and fatigue by eliminating toxins and releasing endorphins. It also enhances circulation, flexibility, sleep, and the immune system.

Pilates and yoga are great for dynamic spinal stabilization, which involves full body, multi-joint, multi-plane, and multi-positional exercises. It improves all facets of movement quality: strength, flexibility, coordination, precision, control, endurance, and breath.

The Kintsugi Physical Therapy team identifies an athlete’s weaknesses or imbalances and creates a unique plan to address it. This improves performance, reduces the potential of injury, and improves functional movement patterns.

Visceral mobilization increases motility and communication within the body, thereby, revitalizing a person and relieving symptoms of bloating pain, dysfunction, and poor posture. Nutritional interventions help improve overall health outcomes and reduce inflammation.

Wellness is a multidimensional state of being describing the existence of positive health in an individual as exemplified by quality of life and a sense of wellbeing. Stress management services can help patients reduce stress and the symptoms it brings.

Ergonomics is the science of fitting the job to the person, rather than requiring the person to conform to the physical job parameters. Ergonomics identifies strategies that help workers perform their jobs in the most efficient manner possible, with the least amount of strain on their bodies. Good ergonomics result in greater efficiency, improved productivity, and better health. We provide assessments and customized plans for both individuals and businesses.

Golf is an invigorating, highly enjoyable sport that can sometimes have serious physical repercussions if you don’t know how to properly move your body during play. Kintsugi Physical Therapy and Wellness offers a golf rehabilitation program that utilizes the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) assessment model.  Golfers of all ages and skill levels can participate and will be assessed on their overall functional movement by going through a series of mobility and stability movements designed to grade, record, and analyze the body’s movement.
